For many centuries, women have had a problem with equality. No matter what the situation is, men always seem to have the upper hand. However, women are also capable of doing the same tasks as men. People need to stop looking down on women and start giving us the same respect they give men.
My brother gets to do whatever he wants. He can go out whenever he wants and comes home anytime. Yet he never seems to get in trouble. If I do the same thing, what happens to me? I get my car and phone taken away. It irritates me how my parents let my brother slide all the time because "he's a boy." I can't even talk to my guy friends on the phone without getting into trouble. But my parents know that my brother stays on the phone late at night, talking to girls. I mean, come on. That's not fair.
Sports an issue males and females can argue about forever. Many people say males are better in all types of sports because they're stronger, faster and quicker. However, there are many successful athletes who are women. There are women who are stronger, faster and quicker than men in the sports industry. Males aren't always the best in every sport. Sure, football is most definitely a males sport, but sports like track, swimming, tennis, air riflery, soccer and many others don't necessarily prove that men are better. Take Jackie Joyner-Kersee for example. This track and field athlete was named Sports Illustrated for Women's Greatest Female Athlete of the 20th Century. As of August 2007, she holds the world record in heptathlon along with six all time best results. Her long jump record of 7.49 m is second on the long jump all time list. She was also a world class athlete in the 100 meters hurdles and 200 meters as of June 2006. Overall, she has won three gold, one silver and two bronze Olympic medals.
Many people like to compete with each other in academics. Yeah, Bill Gates is one of the richest person in the world because of Microsoft, but that doesn't mean all males are smarter than females. In my AP Psychology class, the ratio of girls to boys is 11 to 5, in my AP Calculus class, the ratio of girls to boys is 5 to 2 and the top student in our class is a girl! Did you know that women use more part of the brain than men do? Women are able to do more essential things in life. Women are able to multi-task, which means they can get more things done in a timely fashion. Women are also able to memorize more information, meaning they are capable of knowing more than men. Isn't the phrase "knowing more" mean smarter? There are more interesting facts you didn't know about women and men's brains at this website: http://www.thedigitalbeat.com/2007/04/male-brain-vs-female-brain.html.
The lit areas are the parts of the brain that are used when males and females process information. The top row is the male brains and the bottom row is the female brains.

Why is it that most leaders are males? I personally know a few people who voted for Obama in the primary elections because "he's a guy." I have nothing against Obama, but what if Clinton actually knew how to bring our country back together? I mean, a male did bring us to war.. No offense! But seriously, there are many powerful and smart women around the world. I believe women leaders are strong, intelligent, and competent. According to a current Female World Leader Count (http://http://www.filibustercartoons.com/charts_rest_female-leaders.php), which was updated in September 2007, there are currently seven women as their country's President. These women include Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo of Philippines, Pratibha Patil of India, Mary McAleese of Ireland, Tarja Halonen of Finland, Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf of Liberia, Michelle Bachelet of Chile, and Micheline Calmy-Rey of Switzerland. If females aren't a worthy canidate for office, then why are there so many powerful women around the world? Oprah Winfrey isn't the type of political leader, but she's considered a leader to many people around the world. She's one of the most respected and admired public figures today. She has given advice to so many people and within the first year of the Oprah's Book Club, about one million joined the club.
No matter what people do, people like to favor the guys. I'm tired of hearing the phrase, "you're sucha girl!" Whether it's sports, academics or leadership, proof shows that guys aren't always inferior. It doesn't matter which gender you are. The only thing that matters is who you are.
